Ski Trails Are Groomed

The Wolverine ski trails at the golf course are groomed! Volunteers spent many hours today getting them in great shape for the holidays. Please DO NOT WALK OR SNOWSHOE on any part of the groomed trails, including the twin tracks and the flattened portion. The flattened portion is for ski skating. Feel free to snowshoe in the powder snow where there is no groomed track.

Windfall Lake 2016 Work

The 2016 work at Windfall Lake is now complete. On July 22nd and 23rd, a team of WNMS volunteers completed the majority of the work, including boards across multiple wet spots in the first half of the trail, installation of bear caches and a toilet, and completion of six tent pads.  This work was supported by generous funding (over $9,000) from the Peace River Regional District (PRRD). In 2015, PRRD supported the installation of 110 meters of boardwalks across the wettest parts of the trail.  IMG_3689 - Copy

The remaining work of marking the Circular Route was done in late August. This section takes hikers above treeline, and makes the hike into an attractive circuit. A series of twenty-one 4″ x 4″ posts with signs were installed. The posts are placed within line-of-sight of each other, which should enhance hiker safety and comfort, and concentrating hikers onto one route will help protect the fragile alpine tundra and sub-alpine meadows.

Hello WNMS members

A reminder about the two important events this weekend:

Remarkably, this is the 21st year in a row that this event has been put on here.
$10 for adults, $5 for under 18, free under 6. Tickets at the door. Please bring indoor shoes so as to protect the gym floor from damage.
Thanks to all who have agreed to help, and thanks to Lions Club for donating 40 free tickets for schoolkids. Please consider staying a few minutes afterwards to help clean the gym, return the chairs, etc.

Saturday October 17th: Ridge Ramble Cross Country Race – first race starts at 11 am – start and finish on the golf course driving range. Many thanks to Sarah Waters and Stephanie Davies for taking over the organization of this event this year.

It’s the time of year to start thinking about Itchy Feet.
WMNS is pleased to announce that we will partnering with the library for another year of Itchy Feet presentations.
Travellers who have recorded their trips in photos are encouraged to show off their time away from Tumbler.
If you would like to present your trip please contact Larry White: 242-4499 or talk to Paula at the library.

Banff Mountain Film Festival in Tumbler Ridge: DATE CHANGE TO FRIDAY OCT 16TH

Hello WNMS members,

Just to let you know that our “road warrior” (projectionist) for the Banff Films evening,
Michelle de Camp, is stranded on Haida Gwaii, as the ferry was cancelled.
She will not be able to catch the next ferry and get here in time to
present the films on Tuesday. This means that we are working with the Banff
Centre to reschedule the evening.

The new date is Friday October 16th. All other details remain the same –

7 pm, TRSS Gym, tickets at the door, etc.

Sorry for this inconvenience – please let others know of this change if you
can.
